UMASAR In Action
February 2020 Umatilla County Flood
Approximately 24 UMASAR Unit volunteers, personnel from the Aviation Unit of the Army National Guard, eight Deputy Sheriff's, a swift water team from Wallowa County along with numerous municipal fire and police personnel responded to the flood emergency in north Umatilla County which began on February 6, 2020. Over the course of four days, personnel from UMASAR and the Guard, working together in Chinook and Blackhawk helicopters, rescued 54 people, 10 dogs, one cat and one bunny rabbit from residences isolated by flood waters. It was the largest aerial rescue ever undertaken in Oregon.
